Eight new trips designed for families in search of adventure

Intrepid's new Premium Family trips are the kind you'll reminisce about for years to come. The eight new trips across Borneo, Morocco, India, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand and Egypt put small groups of families in the hands of Intrepid's most experienced local guides — with feature stays, cultural immersion, and kid-focused activities woven throughout. Stay in an overwater villa in Borneo and plant coral with your kids. Spend a night at a desert camp in Morocco under live Gnaoua music. See the Taj Mahal at sunrise as a family. Intrepid handles all the logistics so you can stay present for the moments that matter, while travelling in small groups of three to five like-minded families.

Beyond the Tourist Menu ⚽️

If you’re searching for places to eat that go beyond the typical tourist menu, here are some good options.

Zero-waste restaurants are leading a quiet revolution in how cities feed their residents and guests. By composting food scraps, sourcing ingredients locally, and cutting down on single-use plastics, these businesses reduce the environmental footprint of every meal served — something especially important during a global event that will draw enormous crowds and generate significant waste.

Choosing a zero-waste restaurant isn't just good for the planet; it's good for the local economy too. These establishments typically partner with nearby farms, bakeries, and producers, keeping money in the community and supporting small, independent businesses rather than large chains. For World Cup visitors, this means a more authentic taste of Philadelphia — dishes built on regional ingredients rather than imported, mass-produced products.

Zero-waste dining reflects a broader cultural shift that locals are proud of. Philadelphians have embraced composting programs, refill shops, and food-rescue organizations city-wide, and many neighborhood restaurants have joined this movement voluntarily. Eating at one of these spots lets visitors connect with that local pride while enjoying a casual, affordable meal — no Michelin stars required, just honest food made with care.

No Morning Persons Allowed 🍻

This is a place for those who enjoy afternoons with friends, local beer, and traditional food. Early risers aren't welcome, but that's only because the restaurant opens at 4 pm every day.

I’m talking about Bar Hygge. Open since 2016, Bar Hygge is home to Brewery Techne, a small in-house brewery.

Sustainability has been part of the concept from day one — the kitchen composts all food scraps and even turns leftover spent grain from brewing into free dog treats for the neighborhood's pets, reflecting its cozy, community-first spirit.

The staff was excellent and the service was fast and on point without ever feeling rushed. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and clearly knew what they were doing, which added to how relaxed the experience felt.

A short subway ride down Broad Street connects diners directly to Lincoln Financial Field.

About the food. At Bar Hygge, you can find contemporary American comfort food with shareable boards, brewed-in-house beer, and seasonal entrées.

The Hygge Burger with a secret brisket blend, plus shareable cheese-and-vegetable boards.

Bar Hygge is located at 1720 Fairmount Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19130 (Spring Garden/Art Museum area).

Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends; available via Resy or by phone +12157652274.

The place is open: Tue–Thu 4:00 pm–11:30 pm, Fri 4:00 pm–12:30 am, Sat 10:00 am–12:30 am, Sun 10:00 am–12:00 am (closed Mondays).

The family trip your kids will still talk about at 30

Intrepid just launched eight new Premium Family trips across Borneo, Morocco, India, Costa Rica and more — small groups, experienced local guides, elevated stays, and immersive cultural experiences designed specifically for families. All the logistics sorted so you can actually enjoy it.

Vegan in a Rush 🥪

A place that proves vegan food isn't cold and bland, but quite the opposite. It can be cozy and delicious, and be right around the corner.

LUHV Vegan Deli is a beloved stall inside the historic Reading Terminal Market. LUHV has built a loyal following among locals and tourists alike for providing plant-based food that can be hearty and familiar.

The deli avoids unnecessary packaging and works to minimize kitchen waste, all while staying steps away from Broad Street Line trains that run straight to the stadium complex.

I'd love to return some day to try purchasing their ingredients by the pound, they carry their meat and cheese substitutes. Honestly it may be worth visiting just to bring a pound or two back with me to the city, that's how good it is.

Mark Tobar

About the food. Here you can order 100% plant-based deli classics — sandwiches, soups, burgers, and baked goods. The speciality is the vegan Reuben, made with house-made seitan corned beef and a tangy Russian dressing.

LUHV is at 51 N 12th St, inside Reading Terminal Market, Philadelphia, PA 19107. It opens daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

No reservations needed, it’s counter service.

For the Classics 🍔

Opened in the early 2010s, American Sardine Bar quickly became a Point Breeze institution thanks to its laid-back, backyard-style patio and its kitchen's commitment to local, sustainably sourced seafood and ingredients.

It has earned citywide recognition for offering some of Philadelphia's most creative vegan dishes right alongside hearty, traditional bar fare — proving that a zero-waste, locally minded kitchen can please vegans and meat-eaters at the same table. Its South Philadelphia location makes it one of the closest options on this list to Lincoln Financial Field.

Always a solid time. Great neighborhood feel with a laid-back vibe that still feels intentional. The staff is friendly and on top of it, and the food and drinks are A+.

Nick Wendowski

About the food. This is the casual American gastropub combining classic bar food (sardines, sandwiches, craft beer) with a rotating, creative vegan menu. The speciality is the vegan eggplant "Parm steak" (an inventive plant-based cheesesteak) alongside the bar's namesake fried sardines for those who want a traditional bite.

American Sardine Bar is at 1800 Federal St, Philadelphia, PA 19146 (Point Breeze, South Philadelphia).

Reservations are recommended for groups, but walk-ins are welcome. The place is open daily from 12:00 pm to 2:00 am.
